Here at the Australian Nappy Association, we are super excited to bring you our Cloth Nappy Super Hero Series, This series puts real mums and dads in the spotlight and celebrates every day Aussie families using cloth nappies. If you have a story to tell about how you stumbled into cloth, or consciously choose it, or struggled and triumphed, or found it a breeze… we’d love to share it with the world!
Jasmine is the mum of two cloth nappied boys aged 1 and 2 and has just taken part in her first Cloth Shot A Day event. She’s taken some time to explain how she approached it, and how she used it to share her experience and start conversations. You can follow her on Instagram @indigenous_treasures
October just went and that means Cloth Shot A Day is over! This year was my first time participating and let me tell you it was so much fun, it really opened my eyes on the benefits of cloth and I really enjoyed coming up with ideas to suit each theme.
My number 1 tip to completing CSAD is to plan! I had the majority of my photos done and scheduled using an app called plann.
I really struggled on a few days so I’m here to give you some inspiration.
I had a few ideas for this one but decided to go with this picture.
It’s simple and gets the point across! I said a few things in the caption about how we use cloth because we value our environment and how Designer Bums have a high resale value meaning I’ll get most of my money back when it comes time to sell, how awesome is that!
I wanted to do something that shows no matter your budget you can give cloth a shot! At the end of the day all cloth nappies serve their purpose, to catch wee and poo and be washed and used over and over again.
On the left we have a bunch terry flats, a cover and a snappi. A stash of these would cost you less than $150.
On the right we have some Designer Bums AI2 nappies, these are a bit on the pricey side but so worth it!
This was probably my most creative photo! I used nappies and a wetbag to create a tree and threw some leaves around.
In the caption I talked about how cloth is a breeze once you get a good wash routine down pat and I highly recommend Clean Cloth Nappies Down Under for anything washing related.
I know lots of people posted photos of themselves in cloth and how it’s a family tradition, I did things a bit differently and posted a photo of a nappy that was designed using the traditional dot painting technique.
I wanted to take a photo that showed reusable options for commonly used one use products. I was really happy with how this one turned out!
Some of these switches are so easy and make a big difference to the environment. Cloth wipes make an awesome substitute for disposable wipes, just wet with water and chuck them in the wash with your nappies.
Mini wetbags have so many uses, my favourite has to be using them to hold snacks when out and about.
If you’re thinking about giving cloth a go there’s so many amazing resources to answer any questions you may have!
